Gabriel Valença

PhD Student

Gabriel Valença is a PhD candidate in Transportation Systems in the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. His main research areas are in integrating concepts related to urban planning, smart cities, urban mobility and intelligent transportation systems focusing in traveler behavior, transport demand modelling and network performance. He has graduated in Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Brazil, while, studying part of his degree at the University of Toronto, Canada. During his time in Toronto he worked at the City of Toronto, Cycling Infrastructure and Projects Department, Transportation Services Division. He participated as a Research Assistant at the Transportation Research Group (NETNatal) located in UFRN from 2015 to 2017, focusing in transport policies for urban transport management in Brazil. He also has experience in the fields of housing construction and construction of sewage treatment systems.
