Gonçalo Matos

Research Assistant

Gonçalo Matos is a software developer who decided to swap lines of code for transit ones. After getting a degree in Computer Science at Aveiro’s University, he is currently finishing his master’s degree in Transportation Systems at Instituto Superior Técnico, while actively contributing to the U-shift investigation projects.

His ongoing dissertation is focused on studying bus drivers and how their perspective can help improve transit monitoring and planning, exploring tacit and explicit knowledge of these agents that have received little attention by the literature, but have valuable insights about the network.

The areas of interest for research are transit planning and policy, sustainable urban mobility and travel behaviour.

Beyond his academic work, Gonçalo enjoys cycling, reading and getting involved with the community, particularly on mobility and equality issues. He is also a frequent contributor to Lisboa Para as Pessoas newspaper, where he writes about these topics.
